I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the action scripting used by
GameMaker was similar to Flash (in fact there is a beta utility floating
about that converts gamemaker code to flash) .. there is an advantage using
this to leverage an interest in programming, cross over of skills etc.
Students are free to take and use the software at home etc, submit work for
ACMI ScreenIT compettitions etc.
Not criticism of Flash, I cut my baby teeth on it. As I pointed out to the
Arts/Media teacher last year, we could buy a class set of digital cameras or
wycom tablets with the money saved using freeware or FOSS. He ended up
pushing for a huge A1+ format inkjet printer and jumped in with GameMaker.
Perhaps 2007 ? ;-)
