17 October 9.30am - 3.30pm
Australian Centre for the Moving Image
Federation Square
Flinders Street Melbourne

Grasp an understanding of video games, learn how to build games with free
game creation software and include games in your curriculum.
Today, the video game industry rivals the film industry and it is growing.
Already 100 million Playstation2 and Xbox video game consoles have been
bought. Video games have made a significant impact on our society in a short
time and we need to understand and confidently work with this medium which
is a large and interesting part of children's lives.
The workshop provides all the basics for studying video games, for
exploring where and how video games can fit into the classroom. As a
culminating performance for the unit, your students would be able to make a
game and enter Screen It! - the national moving image competition for
Primary Schools.
This full day workshop will build your knowledge through seminar sessions,
practical demonstrations and hands-on practicals for immediate use in the
classroom. You will create your own game with Gamemaker, a shareware
programming environment optimised for game programming.
Brought to you by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image's Screen It!
competition and the Australian School Innovation in Science Technology and
Mathematics Project.
Workshop Leaders:
Vincent Trundle, AV Curriculum Designer, Australian Centre for the Moving
Image
and
Tony Forster
