Cripes Con, just had a look and Blender is certainly powerful software! It
is different to the aims of GameMaker but one suited towards 3D construction
for character animation or building educational games.

Its polygon meshes, armature (skeleton) deformation with forward/inverse
kinematics and inbuilt raytracer will keep most users busy for a very long
time.  Tis many years since I lost myself in a VRML environment.

It's probably in the high-end league, but Blender3D has a game maker 
facility:

It runs on OS X, Windows, Linux, Unix.

Also might be worth checking Ogre
