[Yr11 Information Technology] Year 10 courses

Morning Sylvia,

We offer Applied Computing to Year 10s, similar to Sarah, as well as “Electronics and Programming”.

I’ve inherited this course this year and it’s definitely not where I’d like it to be, but the core principles are great.

Electronics theory, circuits and then graduating to Arduino boards is going to be great for the “Innovative solutions” topic in Applied Computing 2021 I hope.

They also work with the LEGO EV3 robots.

Programming wise, we have dived into plain JavaScript to make some simple apps and games as students had some background knowledge of HTML/CSS. I will look to cover some basic Python before the year end as well (might be difficult with them all off site and unable to install anything to their devices at the moment.)

+1 to Grok for learning programming and other computing topics, brilliant site.

If anyone has any electronics / Arduino resources or guidance they’re willing to share that would be wonderful.

Hi Syliva,

We offer the Applied Computing Unit 1 and 2 subjects as sememsterised electives for our Year 10 students. This helps to boost participation in Units 3 and 4.

Prior to this I was running a class that covered ‘the internet’ and ‘app development’ using some of the code.org resources. If I was designing a Year 10 elective I would try and give students a taste of what is to come in VCE – depending on what you are offering.

There are also many great courses on Grok that could assist with the teaching of cyber security.

Hopefully you get a lot of inspo from this group! Buch of legends!
