Hi,

How about a Panel at DigiCon?

Not a cast of thousands, but perhaps try and find some people with perspectives from:

-        VCAA: current curriculum goals and what’s changed recently

-        Careers teachers: what are drivers, preconceptions about study and career options in IT

-        Women: what’s working, or not, from the perspective of young women

-        Industry: what are some of the career paths that are currently bringing new talent into their workforce, what do they see as skills gaps

-        University: what does the cohort look like coming into/ out of their courses; what’s working for them in recruiting students and how are they faring in the workforce

-        Advocacy: what messages are working in terms of attracting students, what programs are working

-        Students: perceptions, drivers

Interesting inputs to the conversation might be:

-        Workforce demand

-        Course enrolments

-        Overview of the myriad of programs working to attract students into IT and especially young women; what’s working and what’s NOT working

Ironic of you to say Melissa, twas being talked about off list yesterday when I shared the data from Mark.

Spoke about it on Wednesday with the new EO Kevin Daly and Nathan when they visited me at Monash Uni. Getting together is a great idea and you are not alone to think this at DigiCON.

Without turning it into something akin to "Game of Thones" or unleashing yea olde dragons, keeping it respectful and dignified .. what does everybody envisage that this would look like at? What would you like to see happening?

hehehe. I followed Geoff's link and was amused to find the enrolments in 2001:

IT 1 - 17,113
Information Processing and Management U3 - 13,344
Information Systems U3 (SD) - 3,346

And in 2015...

IT1 - 4,959
IT Apps - 2,651
SD - 1,385
