Thanks heaps for your advice and such a quick response Mark.
I am starting at a new school this year so don’t know the kids at all. Think I will take on-board your suggestion of giving them the option to choose or choosing from a list I create. To stop students ‘borrowing’ from each other I think I will attempt to put a bit of a different spin on the same topic. Pitching to older or younger stakeholders or something like that. Will think on that one.
Thanks once again.
Margaret Graham

Hi Margaret.
Yes, this is the year 11 Computing list.
I think what strategy you choose for U1O1 will depend a lot on what your students are like.
If they are independent and with strong skills, they would probably appreciate being able to choose their own topics.
But since they are just starting VCE, some might be overwhelmed by the challenge of choosing one and locating data.
(I can imagine even unit 3 Informatics kids being scared of choosing a topic for their hypothesis.)
If you give the same topic to everyone, there is greater chance of them "borrowing" work and resources from each other.
Perhaps you could give them the option of choosing a topic or using a topic from a short list you provide?
See how many take each option and use that to decide what to do in 2017.
2.2c worth... (at current GST rates. This may soon change)
Cheers
Mark

Hello all
I am not sure if I am using the right list here or if this one has been replaced with a new Computing one for year 11 teachers?
My question is about the Unit 1 Assessment Task.
The advice for teachers document says teachers can:
- Set the topic for all students
- Provide a list for students to choose from
- Let students choose their own.
I am wavering and wondering what others are doing?
Cheers
