Hi Paul
Thanks for sharing this - it will be of great use.

I have done a few little activities with my class to get them used to converting data to graphic format as well as using an online infographic site (Piktochart)

We haven't gone as far as you I don't think but here is what I have done thus far:

- We did a get to know you type survey on our first lesson where I asked them questions about their skills and interests

- I then wrote the data on the board and we put it into excel, discussing types and purposes of charts

- We did an exercise where they were required to gather data online, filter and convert to graphic form. We used abs and looked at youth unemployment rates for 2015

- They have made an eSafety infographic as a beginner here

- I was planning to next have them complete the 'Apply your knowledge' activity on page29 - Internet Use but think I like your survey idea and need to start talking about question types next
Thanks again

Margaret Graham

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] Y11 Computing Unit 1 Outcome 1 - Survey Questions Exercise

Hi everyone,

My students are going okay with making charts for Infographics using the free online tools in Infogram, Piktochart, Venngage, Canva, and Easelly.

However, they are very unclear on how to make a survey that asks the right questions to get the data needed for some meaningful analysis and good infographics.

So we are doing an exercise where we begin with the end in mind, by looking at a PPT (attached) of some survey results, and reverse engineering to figure out what would be the correct questions to ask in the Survey to obtain this data.

The plan is that from this exercise we come up with something like this for the survey questions:

Computer Gaming Survey

In this investigation we want to find out the typical gaming habits of a range of people of different ages.
