[Yr11 Information Technology] HELP! Year 11 and 12 IT combined class

You need to set out the year 12 plan – organise appropriate lectures for them.
Set up year 12 tasks in terms of software – and while they are doing the questions/Excel or whatever tasks – then lecture yr. 11s – it helps to have a breakout area for the 12s.
It can also work if you ensure the yr. 11s take the yr12 stream the following year. This means that they will benefit from material delivered to the 12s. Many topics overlap – so shared lectures for these.
And yes – you must focus on the yr. 12s.
If you stagger tasks for yr. 11s and 12s it also helps – so yr. 11s are doing long task when theory is being done for 12s etc..
I have done this with moderate success – your expectations must be reasonable and explain to the 12s how they need to be more independent to succeed. You can also give extra yr. 12 classes after school or at lunch if needed.
It is challenging – but not completely impossible.

Im also in the same position and am thinking that I will rearrange the outcomes to suit the year 12 timeline. It is not the best situation for me as you tend to focus on Year 12 students. I would also like to see what others do in this situation

I have been teaching Year 11 and 12 IT for a few years now and they have always been separate classes. Unfortunately for 2015 it looks like the numbers have decreased and I have been given a combined Year 11 and 12 IT class (Year 12 IT Apps). Was just wondering for those that have done this before, can you please give me advice or guidance on how you made this work.

I know that some of the Area of Studies for both courses kind of overlap but not completely and not at the same times.
