[Yr11 Information Technology] Swinburne's Advanced Technology Centre Networking Lab - one of a kind!

Hi Rebecca,

Our school is suffering from a downturn in IT classes to the extent that most elective classes are not running and only 1 at VCE. As domain Coordinator for Humanities/ICT for 2013, I am looking at promoting and raising awareness of IT in all of its various guises. The networking lab certainly fits in with our planning as well as your program for girls (which we last attended 4 years ago). I have viewed the clip which looks great. Is there a site or information that provides more detail about this facility so that I can more effectively see how it will work in with our plans for change.

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] Swinburne's Advanced Technology Centre Networking Lab - one of a kind!

Swinburne’s Advanced Technology Centre Networking Lab is designed to prepare students for work in the telecommunications and networking industry. The lab has facilities that enables every student to develop practical skills to become a telecommunication engineer or data networking specialist.

Telecommunication engineers are capable of developing sophisticated systems such as cellular mobile communication networks, broadband multimedia computer networks, as well as radio and television broadcasting systems. The continued growth in internet and multimedia services is fuelling employment opportunities for telecommunications professionals. Furthermore, the national broadband network rollout, expected to be Australia’s biggest infrastructure project, will provide even more employment opportunities in this new and challenging field for skilled telecommunication and network engineers.

The networking lab offers students flexibility, remote access and hands-on learning opportunities. It is the only one of its kind in the country, with equipment worth over half a million dollars.
