[Yr11 Information Technology] U2-O1

Hi all,

I have just got some interesting work from one of my students using google trends. Note the facebook, twitter, myspace trend and the bottom graph of news articles.

I started them off with a trend of "ipod" and "torrent" which reminds me of this amazing thread below.

Hi Mark and fellow IT listers,

This is some stuff on data visualisation that I prepared last year.  I haven't rechecked the links, but I assume they still work. I did these in preparation for the SAC.

The theory task is basically a question and answer type activity, using the standard Potts text book  (Chapter 5).  I set this as a homework task for my students.

Feel free to use, edit or ignore

Another interesting site to look at is http://www.newsmap.jp to see what other parts of the world are reading about!

Litsa,

I use Google Docs and add in things like motion charts. "Many eyes" is a website that allows you to upload data and create different types of data visualisations. Failing those, you could use wordle!

If I am on the wrong track however, someone please correct me!

May I ask please?

For Unit 2 - Outcome 1, what would classify as a "data visualisation software". I have included the statement from the study design below.
In the textbook there are many charts, but I was trying to avoid using Spreadsheets.

"Area of Study 1: One or more of the following: A programming language, database software, spreadsheet software, data visualisation software"
