I agree with Mark, and do pretty much the same. I offer Inspiration, but
encourage them to do the design by hand. They tend to spend too much time
getting it to look 'cool' instead of getting on with the job.

Hi Claudette

I know one of the key skills in the Study Design involves the use of
software to represent the network diagram, but I very much downplay it and
almost completely get them to do it by hand.  During outcome practice they
can use programs like Visio or even Inspiration to create network diagrams,
but the actual outcome is a pen & paper test concentrating on the thinking
about network theory rather than the use of software.

I'd rather get them to understand network theory rather than get bogged down
with pretty animation.  And they actually like the theory too...
