Ahh, Karen, you will probably soon need a bigger mail box...lots of us are using Gamemaker.
Just a quickie...which version 6 or 7?
Info about...
gamemaker.nl is the website
Lesson plans on it...ah, nope from me but its easy to learn and teach, well at least to a reasonable level of competency (about 5 of my guys are way past me in skills!! The questions I now get really challenge me...)
Time line...
Have spent 3 weeks on it so far!
Assessment
Briefly simplified it for myself and used 4 objective catagories based on observation and simple questioning/discussion with the kids) Intro, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced with ticks in each box. Got 5 boys at what I call an advanced level, most others at intermediate(eg can move to next room and put in several different events/actions) and a few-small number- at beginner who are just perhaps missed some classes or are a little slower at picking it up.
I use it at year 9 level with 2 classes--they love it!
Keep a look out for the game maker competition which may occur again this year as it did last year.
ok folks..did that just about cover it?
oops...er teacher training/PD? I personally am self taught and challenged via the kids queries..
An advanced sample...
My top boy has done a sort of James Bond type simulation like at the beginning of those films where the gunsight is the only visible area going around the screen till it sees a target. His is similar and tracks onto an object moving in a motion that follows a set path...I was impressed.
Got another who currently is developing a game like the platform ones, similar to the super mario style...as I said earlier..way over my skills! But they make great peer tutors and they are happy to do it for me.(these 2 are my top 2) ...they're hooked on it!

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] programming software
Hi
I am new to Edulists and teaching in a SC. I am trying to decide which way to go with programming and was wondering if anyone uses Game Maker.
