What's interesting of course is that the old (generally Unix) hands who
have been doing Internet email for 20 years, were also the first to cry
out in pain when an increasing number of such out-of-office
auto-responders were introduced, mostly by newcomer users of MS Exchange
and similar MTAs.

Then again, these bods were also the first to start screaming when the 
proto (green card lottery) spammers reared their ugly heads about a 
decade ago and begat the eventual despoilation of USENET. 

No one paid attention to them then either ;-(
