We will offer the Cert 2 and the first year of the Cert 3 to the same
class of yr 11s. We have a fairly strong VCAL program and they like to
do as much VET as they can. Due absences at work placements and lack of
diligence they rarely complete the Cert 2 in MM but I reckon they've got
a chance of completing the new Cert 2, which doesn't seem as onerous. By
choosing the UOCs carefully I have put together a course which will
allow the teaching and assessing of both Certs in parallel at yr 11,
something like:
The new Cert II in Creative Industries ( Media )
Yr 11
Units of Competency
Apply critical Thinking techniques
Develop & apply creative arts industry knowledge
Participate in OH&S processes
Work effectively with others
Create and test a CD-ROM/DVD
Perform basic vision and sound editing
Follow a design process
Develop and extend critical and creative thinking skills
The new Certificate III in Media Yr 11 & 12 course
Yr 11
Units of Competency
Develop and extend critical and creative thinking skills
Work effectively in screen and media industries
Participate in OH&S processes
Produce and prepare photo images
Create 3D digital models
Produce drawings to represent and communicate the process
Prepare audio assets
Yr 12
Units of Competency
Create 2D digital animations
Write content for a range of media
Explore and apply the creative design process to 2D forms
Author interactive sequences
Prepare video assets
Create visual design components

Not locked-in yet, but we'll probably offer the Cert3 only.
Students from the region will be yr 11/12 and we always get students
accelerating their VET from yr 10/11.
Re the Cert2 - it doesn't have to be a pathway to cert3, as it is a qual
in its own right. This was a plus for those VET students who left after
doing the 1st year as their efforts were rewarded with the lesser qual
(the cert2). However the value of this to students is minimal as most
employers would not employ on the basis of a cert2 and it provides few
(if any) credits toward higher ed.
With the new VET IDM course - there is a decent increase in hrs to
structure a cert2/3 combo with little advantage (as above); that's why
we are leaning toward a cert3 structure in VET IDM.

Last week I had a meeting with the curriculum developer and the VET
coordinator and we will be offering Cert III over year 11 and 12, with
no Cert II.
To quote the Curriculum developer "why bother doing cert II when it is
only a pathway to Cert III, and you don't need to do it to do Cert 3"
We don't do multi in year 10, So we will be giving it a miss.
I will look forward to seeing you all to chat about the new course after
the exam revision lecture.
:)

My thoughts at the moment...
Cert II in year 10
Cert III over years 11 and 12
I have not been able to offer it for next year as our selections were
very early in the year, however, am planning for 2010.
Can I have some clarification ... Claire you might know... Do they have
to do CERT II before doing CERT III or can I offer Cert III to students
in Year 11 who have not completed Cert III Looking at the OUCs there is
not much tying them all together, depending on what units you do.
And... another scenario would be a Year 11 student doing Cert II and
Year 1 of CERT III at the same time????

I am still in the process of trying to work out what units we will be
offering next year to the 13 student who have chosen to do the new
course. I assume it is not possible for students to do just a unit 1 or
unit 2??
Are
most people thinking of offering CERT 2 at year 11 or just the Cert 3
over two years? Any help appreciated once again. Thanks Geraldine
