[vet-mm] Request for information

Hi Alan, Kevork and everyone.

I agree that the course has been made very general, I personally think that the
generic modules that cover thinking techniques/OH&S/Work effefctively with others
(which seem to now be manditory for all NEW courses be they multimedia or hospitality
or community services)will be the death of multi in my school. The kids just want to
create not
learn how to be safe, reliable and compliant workers.

I tend to think that we'll end up with a modified cert 2, but I can't see too many
kids getting excited over 2 units on writing, 2 units on thinking, units on ;industry
knowledge, OH&S, and working with others. Even the specialist units look dry
MAINTAIN interactive content, USE multimedia & create & test CDROM/DVD. What ever
happened to kids creating and wasn't their something called the internet coming that
would have some impact on society?. Shouldn't we do a bit on this?

I had my rant as part of the review consultation process of the new training package
and its too late now but it seems a shame.

Before we worry too much about what the 2009 course will look like we need to find out
what is happening at VCAA. They control what units we need to deliver for VET in
schools. The VET unit at VCAA is so under resourced its likely that the new course
won't be in schools intil 2010 at the earliest. The current course was published in
May 2001 but wasn't implemented in schools by VCAA until 2003.
