[vet-mm] VET 2009 Help

There are alternatives to partial completion - it is possible to provide RPL
to students, for example, or run integrated projects that cover a range of
units of competency. I ran a workshop today for some of the Sport and Rec
teachers we auspice, and it is possible to set up a project for one unit
that covers off 3 or 4 units as a by-product. It also allows you to sign off
students for the new employability skills that are required with the new
package as well.
Skills such as communication skills, technology skills, work as part of a
team, etc., can be easily integrated into a project where the students put
together a 2D animation , for example.
I am intending of having some examples of this at our stall at the VITTA
conference this year.
Kind regards

Yes, that is what I meant.
This is important info for pathway planning - an important part of
discussions when students select courses of study.
And you are right, a partial qual is more difficult to 'market'. So
hopefully we end up with a complete certificate here.

I agree, Rob.
I'd also really like to know whether it will be a complete Cert II and III
(I'm not sure if this is what you meant in your first point.) I understand
that IT went from having a complete Cert II and III to a complete Cert II
and a partial Cert III. While I'm sure that many students would still
undertake the course if it's only a partial completion, it will affect our
marketing nonetheless.

We have a State Reviewer for VETiS Multimedia who is a member of this list.
It would be nice if they 'chimed in' to this discussion to advise the VCAA
progress on revisions to this program.
The urgent info required at this stage, as evidenced by discussions on this
list are:
- AQTF level - will it still be a cert2/3 combo?
- modules selected for each year?
- course title - is it media, screen, broadcasting, int dig media, etc?
At a minimum we need an ETA for when we can expect some info.
The delay is disadvantaging students. I understand some schools are
cancelling their offerrings for 2009, as they cannot wait any longer.
I have already cancelled presentations to a number of careers nights as I
have no info.

Hi listers,
Yesterday I attended a session run by Innovation and Business Skills
Australia, which shed a bit more light on the recent changes made to the
training package (CUF07), and the potential implications for our VET in
VCE version of the certificates.
The facilitator made it very clear that she has no direct influence over
the units that the VCAA eventually chooses to include in its own course,
but that the Multimedia Cert II and III courses we have been running
have been very successful as they are, so she would imagine that the
VCAA would try not to alter them more than they had to. Her list of
suggested units that would match up nicely with those we already teach
included the following:
- Prepare audio assets;
- 2D/3D animation;
- Maintain interactive content;
- Prepare video assets;
- Author interactive segments;
- Write content for a range of media; and
- 'Write simple stories', which apparently relates to the sort of
stories that trainees need to write when creating simple animations.
The facilitator was also pretty clear that the term 'Multimedia' is no
longer used by the industry; therefore, the names 'Certificate II in
Creative Industries (Media)' and 'Certificate III in Media' would most
likely be adopted as the official names, although she suggested that we
(or the VCAA) might be able to make the sorts of topics that we will be
covering clear in a sort of 'sub-heading'. Out of interest,
'Multimedia', as a term, has apparently now been superseded by the term
'interactive media'.
It was a long day, and these comments are based upon my (sometimes
illegible) notes, so those who were there yesterday can feel free to
correct or add to what I've said.

Yes - it just seems so strange to run a course down like this.
So there is NO Multimedia in yr 11 VET next year?
Have all schools been informed of this?
Has there been wide consultation? It has been one of our most popular
subjects for years - under IT here!
I just do not get it!

As far as I am aware, there has been nothing as yet from VCAA.
CERT II will be the new Training Package (Screen Media), which has
quite different units of competence from the current Cert II
(Multimedia)
CERT III will be the last year for students to complete the
Certificates in multimedia.
Our students have already had to make their choices, so sadly I have
had to opt for not running the VET course at Cert II level in 2009 as I
had insufficient information to provide even a rough course outline.
There are meetings going on at the moment discussing what will be
required for the VETiS program, I know this is no help to your students
-
My solution for 2009 at least was to offer Multimedia as Studio Art
subject, and hopefully get a better picture of the future over the next
12 months, and see what VET course I can develop.

Has there been discussion on here re-2009 VET and the issues
pertaining
to the programming component?
I have no news reader here - so perhaps someone can point me in the
right direction?
We have yr10s doing MM who want information, and next week they are
selecting yr 11 subjects.
Please help .. is there a 2009 course summary available we can provide
for them?
