There is also the issue that all of the industry representatives on the
panel were of the opinion that a cert 2 was no use in getting a job in
the industry. The cert 3 is the minimum to actually be employed in
interactive media and people with only a cert 3 were not actually going
to be allowed in most cases to touch scripting in a work environment so
it might be more sensible to only have it appear in cert 4.
There is a great opportunity to make the course exciting while still
staying within the confines of the course - especially for the more
"arty" amongst us. The IT people (such as me) will need some more
support to be "arty" but the students should (I hope) stress less over
this course.
Anyone who worries about partial completion: if they drop off after
year 11 / unit 1,2 then change their mind a year later any TAFE should
give them RPL for what they have already done - especially if the TAFE
is their RTO
Any student who has chosen it already for next year is taking our
enthusiasm on faith and believes that we can produce a course that will
be good. So let's do it.
Btw: is there anyone who is prepared to set up a common moodle / wiki
for all to access and share on?
That could be the best way around the issue of resources and sharing and
we could treat it as common ground.

Because it was not possible to complete the new Cert 3 in one year,
there was a dilemma, ie that students finish Units 1-4 with only a Cert
2 and partial Cert 3.
I think industry, tertiary institutions and most teachers would agree it
is better to come out of VCE with a completed Cert 3. Doing Cert 2 and 3
really requires 3 years so some schools may offer the Cert 2 at year 10
and then go onto Cert 3 at year 11 and 12.
