Student Futures in Design
Twilight with the Stars at the Melbourne Arts Centre - 10 May 2006
Lab.3000 is delighted to announce the first Design Futures Program which will be opened by Lynne Kosky MP Minister for Education and Training on 10 May at Hamer Hall, Melbourne Arts Centre from 6.15 pm.
This event is part of the AGIdeas International Design Week and has been created to provide Victorian secondary students, their teachers and parents with the opportunity to join the largest student audience in Melbourne ever to swarm and explore a Future in Design.
The Audience
It would be appreciated if you could pass this information on to your network and have members speak with their teachers, especially those who teach Middle School and/or VCE and VCE/VET and to students and parents.
Please ask them to give their students the message that no matter what their chosen career, design is an important element in our everyday living and is one of the fastest growing professions around the world.
The Design Challenge
Ask your students to imagine a career in film or animation, interactive television, a web based business or automotive design, advertising and graphics, products and industrial or fashion design, music or business development, architecture or the next gen of mobile phones.
The Presenters
Ralph Eggleston, a director and production designer at Pixar Animation Studios creators of Finding Nemo, Monsters and The Incredibles, will be joined on the stage by Ken Cato, one of Australia's leading designers.
Learn why Brad Holland was declared "an undisputed star of American Illustration" and Vicki Mackay of Aquent is a design career expert.
Get the inside story of the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton from its designer Paul Charlwood and be inspired by Georgia Chapman from Vixen.
Experience the work of Irma Boom an Amsterdam-based graphic designer who specialises in making books and dare to respond to Jason Ross from Clemenger BBDO who will give an insight into the advertising industry.
These internationally acclaimed presenters will set your students, teachers and their parents thinking, no matter what their current ideas are, about their futures.
I ask that you work with your network, they work with staff, students and parents to encourage them to register for this event, and to be in the city by 6.15 pm on 10 May at Hamer Hall * just by the river.
