Subject: [vet-it] Cert III New course

Hi all,

At parent teacher night last night I had a parent ask me how many units
their son would have to do at TAFE when they finished their units 1 to 4 in
VET IT at school. Their son is doing units 1 & 2 this year and next year
will do 3 & 4 next year.

According to the VCAA book, for the Application stream they need to complete
8 units to get their Units 1 & 2 and 7 nits to complete units 3 & 4. How
many more units will they need to do at TAFE to get the full certificate?

All up this is 15 units. On page 5 of the book it says they need to do the
core units of competence from Cetificate II which are units 1 & 2. Then for
Cert III they have to do six common core units PLUS four specialists core
stream units PLUS four elective units.

The students here will have at the end of their year 12: 15 core units of
which 2 are from the Applications stream. Does this mean that they still
have to do another 2 specialist core stream units PLUS four elective units
at TAFE to get their full certificate?

As you can see I'm a bit confused about it all. Any help would be
appreciated.
