[vet-it] VET IT next year

Hi everyone

On the surface there don't appear to be too many changes in the units
themselves, rather the way they are packaged - i.e. the three streams of
General, Software, and Network Admin are gone as separate qualifications,
and there is now one qualification with three streams within it for teachers
to choose the electives that suit their clients the best.

I am putting together a mapping of the old course to the new course to look
at the changes and will be happy to share it with everyone on the list once
it is done (unless someone else is doing it already).

The difficulty in looking at it now is that we do not know how the VCAA will
package it together to take into account the required pre-requisites as well
as determining which elective units we can offer to the students. If someone
in the VET unit is reading this thread, is there a timeline for which the
program booklet will be released?

Once the VCAA release the program booklet I will be comprehensively
re-working the IT workbooks I publish to design the course more as a
project-based qualification rather than splitting the course into individual
units, which can be a little bit dry, however, there doesn't seem much point
working on a course outline until we know which units will have to be
delivered, and how the pre-requisites will be taken into account.

Regards
Allan Barnes.

I too am trying to up date our VCE/VET book and am wondering how other
school are offering VET. The new training packing says that students
wanting to do Certificate III must have completed a number of prerequisites
- a number of modules that are part of the certificate II course.

Currently at Penola we offer Certificate II to our Year 10 students and
Certificate III is run over two years at Years 11 and 12. The implication
to this is that student who want to complete Certificate III must make that
decision at Year 9.

Are other school offering both Certificates? And is Certificate III offered
across two year levels?

Thanks

Dear everyone,

I need to up date our book of VCE/VET offerings for our 2007 Year 12s, and
I'm not sure what is happening with the VET IT Cert III. I have been told
that it will be quite different next year. (different modules etc) Could
someone confirm this? And suggest where I could go to find out what the
modules and other requirements etc are.

Thank you, Lesley
