No, I celebrate what we all have to offer and share. :-)
In the secondary system we are working to prepare students for a VCE as
independent and highly skilled learners and of course, some dignity is due
to technology teachers who have worked hard to help build up a new course
over the past decade, often from the ground up. Do well with what we have
and aspire to do our best.
We decided
- Ask each secondary school teacher where we can best embed ICT into
their coursework
- Some ICT is delivered through dedicated offerings, the remainder
becomes the responsibility of other teachers.
- Encourage ICT rich classrooms but not make everything we do an ICT
activity or progression point task.
- Every activity in every learning area does not need an ICT focus or
assessment task
- IT dedicated classes should draw their contexts and build links with
other subject areas
- Use an IT tagged teacher to help assemble IT assessment tasks and
assess student ICT competencies
- Determine an ICT PP once but do it well, averaging a bigger bucket
will not give us a better answer.
It isnt surprising that there is scope and some some good reasons for
schools to have specialist IT classes as standalone subjects. There is room
for us all to do wonderful things with our students. I guess we came about
it from a different direction
