We're allowed to copy it, in any form, if its for educational use.
Except when its a DVD with copy protection measures.

The rules vary according to whether we're talking about TV, books,
music, downloads, VHS or DVD, J.
The general 'educational use' bit is always trumped by any more specific
clause, such as 'access' TPM. That includes trying to watch Foxtel
without hiring one of their set top boxes, as well as ripping a
commercial DVD.
Interestingly, unlike America, it is now legal to circumvent regional
TPM, so using a player firmware hack or computer software to get around
Regional Coding of DVDs is fine.

Clarky
