We use Hp Buisiness series Though so it might differ. I tried when I had my
laptop on vista and it was hell. When I went back the next day first thing I
did was re-image it and demo it that night. And it worked out of the box.

A couple of things I've learnt about Vista and laptops over the last
year or so:
(we use Toshiba, not IBM so maybe not quite the same)

1. The power scheme does funny things - eg the 'power saver' setting
turns off the DVD and maybe the wireless.
2. To get recalcitrant wireless working, go into 'network and sharing
centre', then 'Manage network connections', then disable and enable
the wireless connection - it should then detect wireless networks.
3. User Access Control (UAC) is a pain.
