[Year 12 SofDev] Computer hardware at home

Hi,
A couple of students are saying that they are unable to use Visual Studio on their Apple computers at home because they say that it runs differently on an Apple. Also, because of ongoing technical issues at the college, they are unable to use the copy available on the VPN.

Is it a requirement of the course that students have hardware at home so that they may practice their coding? What happens if this hardware breaks or is not suitable (Apple in this case)?
