[Year 12 SofDev] sofdev Digest, Vol 162, Issue 33

I've been using XAMP for years and never had these sorts of issues. Can you send me a screenshot of your "fake" login screens Vic off-list? I have an idea but need to see what you're talking about to be certain.

Another prudent process is to start and stop the servers when you need/when your finished needing it. Maybe that would help.

Yes, I can google!

The fake "login" windows are appearing not only on the browsers but on Cortana when I try to open anything from the windows menu. I can repeatedly click on 'Cancel' and eventually it goes away. But this is a repeated instance. I am learning to live with it currently because I can't afford to have everthing deleted again by our "Zero Malware Tolerance" tech staff.

Given this has happened repeatedly and the only software installed on the laptop is Google Chrome, Notepadd++ and XAMP, I'm starting to think it can't be a coincidence.
If anyone has had similar issues with XAMP please let me know how you solved them.

Thanks.

Hi Victoria

I still use microsloth visual studio - just because it works (sort of) - one of the best purchases microsloth made.
no user interface to create from code
Students can put it on their own devices - the “lite” version cannot create exe files

I have been using it since the 90’s (the 1990s to you young uns)

I use mine on a mac … much more reliable machine - just costs more

I used to run it in virtual box but now I use VMware Fusion (cost me $40 with ed'n disc some time ago)

it is not fast - after all it “runs” in windoze but I am not after fast, I want the students to focus on programming, not on coping with other problems no matter how relevant they might be to something

IMO SofDev is about learning program concepts so which language I use is not relevant - did they learn the concepts ?????? Yes - good, No - why?

So EVEN at this stage in the learning curve I would go back to VStudio and just say wow, look what I learnt, now let’s get to work.

Good luck with your endeavour (Don’t think of Don Quixote)

Andrew
