Hi all
I've been approached by a Year 9 home group teacher to present ideas in a year 9 class about careers in coding, the kids will be in computer lab.
This isn't my strong point as I have not taught a careers subject in about 5 years. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so I'm looking for resources. Powerpionts / Prezis, killer Youtubes, great websites?
This is my current thinking for the one hour lesson I'm but open to suggestions:
Inspiration video
Careers IT Bulls Eye
Brief overview of computing subjects the college offers
Get the kids to do easy online coding (from CodeHS, Code.org, DASH)
Wrap Up - Links to further information on College Portal for interested students.
Any assistance/advice greatly appreciated.
IMHO this is something we need to get right. If our numbers in Software Development classes don't double in the next few years then there must be something wrong further down in the high school food chain. If we make it easy for a Year 9 careers/homegroup teacher to present reason to code then our numbers should grow.
Cheers
