[Year 12 SofDev] Student query

I have never taught Software Development. However I would think that using
different languages in a SAC would be fine, so long as they were approved
languages.

Sure the same task under the same conditions but using any one of the
approved languages.

I've got the same understanding as Geoff. SACs must be under the exact same
conditions for all students in the cohort to enforce fairness and equity
(aside from the special conditions that your VCE coordinator applies for,
like rest breaks, printing on a different colour page, etc.).

For the SAT there's more room of choice, a bit like the design & tech kids
who can choose to work in metal, plastic and/or wood.

Also pointing out dot point 3 in the SAT authentication procedures:

3. Undue assistance should not occur at any time during the development of
the body of work, and

teachers need to be vigilant. Students are required to demonstrate
development of their thinking

and working practices. Teachers are reminded that it is not appropriate to
provide 'detailed advice

on, corrections to, or actual reworking of students' work'.

If you feel like you can't authenticate a C++ program you can say no, but if
your concern is that you won't be able to help with every little piece of
code, well you're not actually allowed to do that anyway.

Fatima,

At the risk of getting in before the people with titles to back them up -
I'm pretty sure this is the go:

Approving a students' proposal for the SAT is at the teachers' discretion,
and as such probably comes down to whether you are confident you can
understand the C++ code well enough to assess his work, and whether his
skills in the language are going to be sufficient to meet the criteria
without the support & resources that would come with doing the same as the
rest of the class.

But while there's nothing stopping a student using a different language on
the SAT, I'm pretty sure the student should be doing the SAC work in the
same language. But I'm less confident of that one.

Good morning and happy Friday to all!

I have a student in my SD class who wants to do all his SAC/SAT work in C++.
Our school however is using Visual Basic. Is it okay for him to use C++?

Regards
