[Year 12 SofDev] Data Integrity: different between accuracy and correctness?

If I remember right, there was some discussion at the start of the year (and I'm sure someone will have the conversations in easy reach) ... correctness has a level of "appropriateness" to it implied.

One of the examples of an accurate but incorrect situation was someone cutting a length of material to 1.72m (accurate) but using plastic instead of wood (incorrect). Another (I think it was Mark Kelly's example) was counting cows in a paddock - if there are four cows in a paddock, saying "there are five cows" is inaccurate and incorrect, saying "there are four Herefords" is accurate but may not be correct (they might be Fresians or Jerseys). I'm sure whoever had that example can correct my inaccuracies ;) . Counting a free open concert crowd to the nearest 100 may be "correct" but not accurate.

Darren

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Data Integrity: different between accuracy and correctness?

Hi all,

As part of the five characteristics of data integrity we have both accuracy and correctness; how do we differentiate the two of these?

Thanks
