That was my concern, but as all tasks had a duration it seems they had to ‘extract’ one from the given information.

Indeed, that's how I saw it.

The instruction "name a milestone" implies that the information has already been given in the question and students need to identify and quote it.

If the Q wanted students to "suggest/create an appropriate milestone that might be added to the chart" - that is a different matter entirely.

This one perplexes me.

We are asked to name a milestone for the project, yet none of the listed activities have zero duration.

Are students meant to invent a milestone, such as "End of Project" rather than identify and name one that has been given to them?

What did you guys say for that question?
