I didn’t do much for hash tables as well, but as my students pointed out they got out 4 of 5 marks for that question if they could store the numbers in the right spots which is hard to figure out from the question text given.

Aha! I felt terrible about not doing hash tables in any depth with my class – but that makes me feel a bit better. I guess it’s possible to do the question without knowing that – given how the question steps out the instructions, but it still feels a bit naughty from VCAA.

MC Q6 is a bit ambiguous – I think you could make an argument for either archiving OR backup, depending on how you intend on using those files. Generally speaking though I think this was a pretty good exam. Glad my students finally got the message about bringing a scientific calculator in this year though! Couple in there where it’d prove useful. And kids who did the Sample Exam should have got plenty of value from it – there are some pretty similar questions.

Had a quick look over the exam.
I like Section C of the exam. Good questions.
Multiple choice are pretty good too.

My query though, is about Section B, Q 4.
This regards Hash functions. However I could only find one, optional reference to hash tables in the Study Design. Elsewhere it refers to data structures as being ones that are relevant to the selected language.

I’ve pasted the excerpt below… can anyone clarify whether when the Study Design say ‘or’, it actually means ‘and’ ?
Hence my surprise that it was on the exam.
