[Year 12 SofDev] Use Case

Surely in this SAT we are doing the students are going to create a UCD for their proposed new system. I mean Use Cases themselves are mainly concerned with the functional parts of the system (what it does), so this a way of putting the functional req’s into a diagram and also showing which actors are associated with them.
A lot of my students are making something for an opportunity, so there really isn’t a past system to make a UCD for anyway…
Thanks

Thanks Mark and Robert,
I always thought a use case for the analysis part would be for the current system and then to create another for the design phase for the new system. I thought mentor may also be an actor!
Member refers to the people of the group that use the system. They use Google for their conversions and calculators.

Hi Mary
The whole UCD is odd. I'm wondering why a UCD is written for the current system. If it's going into an SRS, should the UCD not describe the functionality of the proposed new system?
Use cases are usually shown as programmable functional requirements of the new proposed system (in a verb/noun format), such as 'Convert Measurements', 'Solve Equations'.
This UCD implies that the finished system can 'find component specifications' and 'ask mentor for equations', etc. This is obviously not what the solution should be able to do.
As for actors, who will be using the system? To whom will the system send data, or request data? They should be shown as actors.
I suppose a UCD could have only one actor, but it's not common.
Oh - and the <<extends>> should all be <<includes>> since they are not conditional.
If they are conditional, the condition should be attached. And if they are <<extends>>, the arrows' directions need to be reversed.

I have a student who is really good and he has created a use case with only 1 actor, I'm not 100% sure if this could be correct. I just wanted some clarification.

So the member of the system uses calculators to convert measurements etc, but should there me the mentor there? What's missing?!
Thanks in advance
