Hi Chris,
How much time do you have a week with the various year levels?
At Alkira we only see the year 7’s once a week for one semester, the sessions go for 80 minutes. For the year seven we cover basic IT skills and look it various programs they will be using as part of their education at high school.
We have a year 9 IT elective which is two 80 minute sessions a week. In the first term we did some games development using Unity (I probably won’t do that again as the Unity resources progressively got worse or none existent and Unity doesn’t run well on education department network.) For the second term students have an option of either Cyber Security where they cover a topic of the week and work on a CTF program or they can do 3D animation using Maya or Blender.
For our year 10 elective I think I’m going to focus on software development and run the students through a stripped down version of the SAT so students have some experience with SAT’s before they get to year 12.
Of course I have never checked to see if any of this aligns with the new curriculum.
Cheers,
Ben.

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Digital Technologies
Hi All,
At Kew High School we’ve started our journey on implementing the Digital Technologies curriculum. Presently we don’t have any standalone I.T. classes in years 7-9, but that is one option that’s on the table. Is anyone out there willing to share what they’ve implemented this year, or perhaps what their thoughts are for next year?
Thanks,
Chris
