Hi Duane

Just my 2 cents....

Pseudocode is considered a software design tool according to the key knowledge ("methods of representing designs, including data dictionaries, object descriptions, mockups and psuedocode") so I would think that having students interpret teacher provided designs would be encompassed by Criteria 1 of the Performance Descriptors. The outcome statement states that for students to meet the requirements of the outcome that they only need to interpret designs. If you decide to extend your students by having them create pseudocode (or any other design tools for that matter), I don’t think there would be anything wrong with that. In fact, it could be considered as the “stretch question” (ie those questions that separate the students who know the content as opposed to those who really know and understand the content.

My understanding of Criterion 2 is that it is based around their selection of data types to use within the modules that they produce and that it is not necessarily about design.

Regards

James

Hi

Having a look at the rubric for Unit 3 Outcome 1, I am interpreting the first criteria (interpreting software designs) as including pseudocode.

This may include mockups and/or pseudocode - not quite sure if the students are meant to develop pseudocode from scratch or we provide them with some psuedocode that needs to be developed further? Any suggestions welcome.

Criteria 2 of the rubric I am interpreting as students needing to create a data dictionary.

Open to different interpretations of the above - or if I am heading in the wrong direction let me know.

Cheers
