Hi Adrian and Chris
I am not writing an Informatics text so I am not sure how that one came about J
Quite busy with many other projects at the moment ……….
An interesting point is made nonetheless about a combined text although I am not sure how well it would cover the depth required for each.
Take Care

Hi Chris,
I had thought that Kevork was writing an Informatics text? (Sorry Kevork if I am misquoting you!!) I would be happy to work on something that combines both SD and Informatics - maybe for the next edition? - but if there is one on the way, that would be far better!
Cheers,
Adrian

Just a stray thought ….
Is one solution to have one textbook for VCE IT that covers both Informatics and Software Development? There is a degree of overlap between the studies, and could be likened to Further Maths core and modules ….

Yep, thanks again to Adrian … though looking at the trends in numbers there could be a day when Sof Dev (1290 in 2014) overlaps IT Apps/Informatics (2500). We’re only running SD in the near future (decision from our school’s curriculum people). For those who don’t want to trawl through the enrolment numbers, http://www.smh.com.au/it-pro/expertise/it-crowd-shrinking-as-vce-enrolments-plummet-20140907-10dizx.html is an old (2014) news story that has a nice interactive graph down the bottom that you can get an idea of enrolments from. Perhaps Adrian’s time machine is telling him something of the future? J
As an obligatory “take this to another subject”, for those teaching Further Maths as well – when you get to transforming data in the Core stats unit, the IPM/IT Apps numbers over the last 10-15 years produce an excellent model of a third-quadrant transformation for a test or SAC. We used the numbers to make a SAC a couple of years ago - we renamed the subject as VCE Basket Weaving, taught by Mrs Hugo, to protect the identity of the subject. As a trade-off for Computing people, the networks chapter in any Further book is great for examples to turn into Gantt charts (FM does PERT/CPM charts which you can steal and convert).

Hi Michael,
Yes - 100% market share is good, but having said that - it's still a close thing! That's why none of the publishers will produce a text for a small subject like SD.
Cheers,
Adrian

Thanks goodness for Adrian.
That’s the problem with having a small cohort.

Hi all,
I haven’t seen this mentioned on the list, I just received confirmation from Cengage Learning that Nelson will not be publishing a SD textbook for the new study design. We currently use their IT:A text for year 11 and 12, but are moving to SD next year.
They recommended Adrian’s book as the only text being published in this subject.
How does 100% market share sound?
