[Year 12 SofDev] UN Data Revolution

As some of you may be aware I have also started teaching VCE Geography over the last two years.

It is amazing how many of my IT skills are now being used in that area (at one point my students asked was Geography an IT class!!) - idea of data (and big data) and information - and its use in societies 'what if', Geographic Information Systems etc.

In Sept the UN also noted the 'value' of data in all its forms and its role in development.
The Independent Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on a data revolution for sustainable development was convened at UNHQ 25th-26th September

"During the initial discussion, group members highlighted several important issues including what the group means by the data revolution for development. Many members of the group view this concept as more of an evolution or accelerated data evolution, rather than a completely new paradigm, while others focused on the possibilities associated with big data and privately produced information."

Certainly an area to keep an eye on in light of the new study design.

I do like the Venn diagram on data literacy.
