hi,
I trialled the sphero 2 programmable robotic ball ($180 per ball) this year and was quite impressed.
gosphero.com
They are controllable via tablet or phone via bluetooth (apple, android or win8).
There is a programming interface via free apps such as Macrolab - you can set challenges that students have to solve by coding.
We'll be using sphero with year 8s next year.
cheers
gordon

Hi,
I teach programming to Year-10 students. I want to see if I can incorporate/demonstrate programming using a robot. I see that there are "Lego Mindstorm" and "Bioloid Beginner Robot Kit" that can be used (both costing around $500 each). If anyone has taught Robotics, can you suggest which one is a good option.
