Who should be involved in acceptance testing?

This is a bit of an ambiguous one to me, since the in some places
 "acceptance testing" is used as a synonym for  "*user* acceptance testing".

So to some people it could refer to the client like Dr Fischer, to prove
that planned functionality actually exists, or a typical end-user like an
asthmatic, to see if the software is acceptable to its average users.

In the end, I opted for Dr Fischer, in the assumption that "user acceptance
testing" does emphasise the user rather than the client.

Did anyone else wonder about this possible difficulty in interpretation?
