That's true. Mine are starting the practice SAC today, and from first impressions it is different enough from the tasks we have been doing to make them think about how they will be using their older code. (not just copy paste and change some variable names....)

I let them refer to notes during the SAC - in the real world, programmers would always do this to remind themselves of syntax, etc.
As for referring to their old code, I've found (as you say) that the weaker students gain little or no advantage from it. You just need to make sure you don't give them practice tasks that can too easily be converted into code for the SAC.
Mine have just started U3O2, so we'll see how we go!

Hey, I'm wondering what people generally do with access to resources during the programming SAC's in SD. I'm new to SD and I'm not sure whether to give students access to the code they have used in their programming task we've been working on during this whole Unit 3?
In my opinion students that try to just copy paste code (not understanding what it does) won't be able to produce the correct working prototype anyway.
Any thoughts?

An E-flat, a C, and a G go into a bar. The bartender says, "I'm sorry, but I can't serve minors."
