Hi Mark,
I haven't seen the example but I have come across both representations - external as well as internal.
Example, Andy's Autos used in the System Documentation Methods book ( Judy Adams ) favoured by many of our colleagues over the years, used a mechanic in the worskshop as an external entity because he was filling in job cards and handing it in for finalising processing and billing.
In the same case study Elaine the office manager is part of the system and not shown.
Happy to send the wording if you like.
Once again, I haven't seen the wording of the case study you have mentioned.
Speak soon

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Context diagrams - employees as external entities
The suggested solution to VITTA 2012 Exam 1, C3 started me thinking. It has employees shown as external entities providing data flows to the VoxSearch system.
I would have hidden the employee processes within the system since they would be part of the system.
Would you guys show employees as external entities in a context diagram?
