ie it is possible for staff in the business NOT associated with the system, to provide data to and from that system.

There is an example is 'System Documentation Methods' by Judy Adams called "Andy's Autos". In this, the mechanics are drawn as an external entity that interacts with the 'Office System'.

Correct Claudia,

The only entities in DFDs are external to the business. Staff are not shown as they are working to complete the processes.

The UCD would show the receptionist as the actor as you would want to see who is doing the task.

Hi all,

I have a case study where a receptionist takes down details from a client over the phone then enters that into the 'software' at a later date, with some invoice/bill ultimately being sent to the client.

Am I correct that the DFD should not show the receptionist just the client and the data flows from them?

Also when I then do the UCD does the receptionist become an actor as this is a 'role' in the system?

Students seem to be getting the connection between DFDs and UCD I'm just trying to work through the place of some personnel that have traditionally fallen into being the 'system'.
