Agree.
GB is definitely Gigabytes and Gb is definitely Gigabits. The context does
inform the unit though - for example, even though in SBQ4 it does say '4 Gb
RAM' - you would not be talking about 'bits' in the context of RAM.
Likewise in SCQ3 - '40 Mb' for a file size - would be Megabytes as opposed
to Megabits. Although it is probably easier for us to be comfortable with
errors like this and less so for students who are a little unsure (and wary
of trick - or "tricky" questions).
Cheers,
Adrian

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Exam - Section C - Discussion
No surprises in the exam which is nice.
One confusing point was the use of Gb for Gigabytes of the hard drive and
RAM (both in section B and C) and kbps for presumably kilobits. I am sure it
should be a capital B for bytes and a small b for bits. This confused some
of my students (although I think they made the correct decisions). Perhaps
this ambiguity needs to be taken into account by the examiners for section C
question 4 and 5.
>From the sometimes unreliable (but quick to access) Wikipedia:
"The gigabyte is an SI <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI_prefix> -multiple of
the unit byte <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte> for digital information
storage <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_data_storage> . The prefix
giga <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giga-> means 109, therefore 1 gigabyte
is 1000000000bytes. The unit symbol for the gigabyte is GB or Gbyte, but not
Gb (lower case b) which is used for the gigabit
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabit> ."
