Apart from the standard course information I usually introduce students
to desk checking and algorithms. It does a good jobs of scaring off
those who shouldn't have chosen the course in the first place and works
well with those who have done some of it before in year 11 IT. I then
give them some questions on networks to answer either from general
knowledge or via the internet. Any questions not completed become
holiday homework. Feel free to use the attached files but I haven't
modified any them for this year's transition. I use the Fitzpatrick
text.

Hi there,

 

While I've taught SD once before several years ago, it appears that it
will be running here next year, and that I'll have the class. I've heard
that the textbooks are being rewritten, or is this for the new course in
2011? Of the two books available, which is the preferred one? There are
none in my school. I have to run three lessons next week for
orientation, and am floundering at the moment. I'd really appreciate any
assistance to get started. Programming isn't my forte.
