Dear colleagues

Yesterday national ICT careers week was launched by Senator Stephen
Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy,
in Melbourne. It was the official opening of an exciting week promoting
ICT as a career. Several key people in the IT industry spoke at the
launch, including VITTA's President, Adrian Janson, who was an excellent
ambassador not only for VITTA but for the IT teaching community. Well
done Adrian.

If possible try to participate in one of the many programs offered by
VITTA this week. As reported yesterday, attitudes of young people
towards IT as a profession is changing, and to a certain extent this is
reflected in the VCE IT enrolments this year. Enrolments in Unit 3 IT
applications increased for the first time since 2000, and the smallest
decline since 2000 was experienced in Unit 1 and Software development
Unit 3. Remember, plenty of us will be retiring within the next five
years and we need young bright sparks to replace us!

Regards

Paula
