Hello all,
Well I am surviving SD....just! Now that we are in Unit 4 and ready for the next SAC.
I would welcome any SAC examples that I could peruse or use and in particular, VB coding that my students could use with this SAC. I really am in the dark on this one and would appreciate any assistance.
As an indication of how difficult I am finding this subject....47% of my students failed the last SAC. I gave them all the expertise and resources that I could.
Basically....am very dismayed at the difficulty of this course....it is really hard!!!

atSwinburne (apologies for cross posts)
Hello Everyone,
I have been working with Swinburne's Faculty of Information and
Communication Technologies to develop curriculum specific and innovative
programs for students in Years 9-12. My goal as an ICT educator is to
raise the profile of ICT in schools, whilst developing new programs and
workshops to assist current secondary school students and their
teachers.
In conjunction with Swinburne's academic staff, new hands-on VCE
curriculum focussed workshops have been designed and are now available
for students and teachers. These workshops are linked to VCE Business
Management, IT Applications, Physics and Software Development and will
give students hands on experience and theoretic knowledge to enrich
their current learning. In addition to these programs we also have
workshops and presentations available to years 9 and 10 students (full
details can be seen in the attached guide).
Having worked as a secondary school IT teacher I know first hand how
beneficial such workshops are for students and teachers.
Attached to this email is the Swinburne ICT Education Programs guide
that contains information for all programs. For further information
visit:
http://www.swin.edu.au/ict/schools
Please contact me to if you would like to discuss these workshops
further.
Cheers,
Rob Mercer

Hi John,
I have been using Adrian Janson's VBnet book and its a good start. There is also a very useful online tutorial for VBnet Express edition and it goes all the way to linking your Access DB with your application (using code and not wizard). It has proven to be useful for my classes.
www.homeandlearn.co.uk/NET/VbNet.html
best of luck :)
Regards
Fatima
P.s. the tutorial doesnt cover SQL though

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Access & VB 2008 Express Edition Help
Hi Everyone,
I am having real trouble finding tutes on vb 2008 express edition. I have managed to interface with a MS Access database using a BindingSource control so that the fields from the first record are displayed in textboxes. The problem I am having is navigating forward and back between records. I really just don't know where to start. I had no problems with VB6 but this application is quite different. I would appreciate any assistance.
Cheers,

Friends, colleagues ...
As I will be on long service leave during Term 4, I will be leaving my
Software Development class behind ... (sob)
Pardon my ignorance, but what sources for practice exam questions are
there around? I need to load them up with plenty of exam practice.
Thanks in advance,

Insight has one for SD (and one for ITA) - www.insightpublications.com.au.
Disclaimer - I wrote them :-)
But remember: for the kids, term 4 will only be about a week long.

Hi John
I'm using C# and the OleDb libs rather than binding sources. It's been a
long time since I've used VB but the same approach should work.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim dbConn As New
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;data
source=P:\\databases\\Sample.mdb")
dbConn.Open()
Dim dbCmd As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("Select * From
EmployeeTbl", dbConn)
Dim reader As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataReader
reader = dbCmd.ExecuteReader()
While reader.Read()
Dim data = reader.GetValue(1)
End While
End Sub
End Class
