Hi David,
My understanding of the study design is that the factors are found in the
key knowledge specifically in the key skills. I feel it is totally
legitimate to ask a question about these factors; they are examinable. The
three factors are then mentioned specifically again in the Key Skills as
well -- bullet point 1 on page 38.
I also feel (and this is a personal preference thing), that a data
dictionary is almost a little premature - as 'we' are in the thick of the
analysis (and start on the design of the new system). But there is no
reason why you couldn't include one. Likewise, a context diagram is fine -
but again, I feel it does not allow for enough analysis of why the system is
inefficient. Ultimately, a context diagram doesn't show a whole lot - you
could ask students to produce both a context and a DFD? - or provide them
with the context diagram? - but what understanding would they develop about
how the system operates by just drawing a context diagram?
Again - it's a personal preference thing - but I prefer not to mandate any
sort of technology for the solution to this SAC. I think students should
form their own opinions - although - the way I have designed it lends itself
to the introduction of mobile technologies. In the next SAC, I will say
'Antonio has considered the options and chosen ......' and then mandate a
particular system for the students to write software for.
And lastly - parenthood is great!! - the photo is (hopefully) just good
'acting' ;)
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi
Is there anyone else who gets a server reset message everytime they try
to download something from VITTA? I really cannot understand why this
occurs as we are ok here for all other sites that I use. Yet it works
from home.
Anyway my question is:
- is the "factors question" needed according to the study design and
asst guide? I thought it wasn't - and I like to use a data dictionary
here and I thought context might have been required.
- and is there any reason why we do not say to add PDAs or some such
device to the system?
Is that you wearing rouge Adrian or just the stress of parenthood?

Hi everyone,
Well - my intentions were good.. I presented the floor plan to my
students
who (after pondering it for a little while). then asked:
"I thought you said there were 6 PCs - but there are only 2 in the
diagram"
"Where is the Staff Common Room that you mentioned?"
"Where do the nappies get changed?"
"It's a bit small for 50 kids + 12 staff members don't you think?"
"Is it to scale?"
To which I replied - "grumble, grumble.. " or something similar and
promptly
'did some extensions' to the floorplan, which I have uploaded over the
original floor plan here:
http://www.vitta.org.au/resources/detail.php?doc_id=3473
Apologies to those that downloaded the floor plan already - and for
the
record - it is not to scale.
Cheers,
Adrian
