Found the students liked to get straight down to it....
a.. sample questions from last years paper... using mark Kelly answers soon after .... i.e. see it's not all to hard to understand. this is what we are aiming at for one years time.... very achievable.
b.. intro exercise for pseudo code/ flow chart and NS diagrams (NO prep lecture, I removed many of the sections and required all students to fill in AT LEAST one example of pseudo code, one of flow chart and one of NS diagram each and submit). (see attached) just ask/ discuss/ go on internet and find out for yourself ... i.e. show mature self starting go get it attitude to what you don't know as I can't say everything in class and you wouldn't remember it anyway....
c.. read chapter 1 and complete all chapter knowledge and apply questions - THEN check answers provided by publishers and see if you agree with them. THEN b prepared to answer any of them in a closed test in the first week back..... i.e. you won't learn unless you challenge yourself re. what do i know/ can do without any assistance ? Start with Look/ write/ cover / check and improve from there.....
Hope this helps....

I have just handed the reins over to another teacher new to software development for next year and he too is required to run a 2 week introduction. My advice to him was to go over the course and SAC details, then select from hardware, networks, or if you want to scare them a bit algorithms and desk checks.

I have taught ITA this year; For the first time in many years, no ITA class next year, but in line with our normal practice Software Development will run (Systems ran every second year). Our Systems teacher has retired; new teacher due in January; I have the task of TWO weeks (eight periods) with Head Start program for Software Development.
Any suggestions for a logical starting point (had thought of SDLC, since have taught that before).
