By the way, keep an eye out in the VCE Bulletin coming up for a notice about editions of the set texts for the new course

Great to see the philosophy list come to life! Yes, the idea of reducing the number of texts was to provide more time for each text and also to allow time for Outcome 3 in Unit 3 which requires studying the good life in sources outside the set texts. Many teachers said that in the current course, only a superficial nod was given to other traditions. In the new course, other traditions has been broadened to more general sources. The idea is to allow time to study these sources and apply the philosophy in the set texts - to 'do' philosophy.

Good to hear from you Rodney! I agree that it's good to have more time for each texts - I think that was the unanimous view of people prior to the review, so that's definitely a plus. I knew you'd miss MLK. I've just started to have a look at the 'new' Nietzsche text and the first paragraph is already quite daunting!! I'm still trying to work it out after 3 or 4 readings... but perhaps that says more about me than the text... in any case, I think we're going to need that extra time!!

Richard, Greg, et. al.

It is good to see this list going well. Thanks Kevork.

Regarding the revised study design, I must say that I was greatly surprised. The removal of some of the texts was not what I expected. I agree with Richard that the Sartre deletion will be noticed. King will also be missed.

I actually showed the revisions to some former students a few weeks ago and they were almost incensed about it. As difficult as all of the texts were, they did not want any of them to be deleted. :) Wow, I must have sold well to them....

I have not spent much time pondering the changes, but I am happy to see that we will have more time to work with the individual texts.

Well, good day to all and I look forward to reading more ruminations.

Rodney

What a sick puppy you are Greg. All those floods out your way have done nothing to cleanse your heretical ways I see!!

While there's a little life in this list, does anyone have any comments on the new study for next year? I confess to being a little taken aback by some of the text choices... I think Sartre was one of the better ones - certainly from the kids' perspective. Any thoughts?
