Flip Video <http://www.theflip.com> is impressive and robust little unit for
schools for video or stop motion animation. Here is an interesting YouTube
review <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBmVmPNBtgQ&feature=user> by David
Pogue from NYTimes that includes a comparison with camcorder footage. Whilst
it is not yet available for sale in Australia (yet) .. this device will
probably only cost around $150.
I notice that FlipVideo:
- comes with an underwater
housing<http://www.theflip.com/store/Product.aspx?SKU=AWC1T>(we have a
surf-life saving squad)
- comes with an action
mount<http://www.theflip.com/store/Product.aspx?SKU=AAM1N>and
protective silicon skin (sports students will love this)
- works with
Linux<http://jamesguske.blogspot.com/2007/10/flip-video-ultra-works-in-ubuntu.html>,
even our Linux flavoured school eeePC's.
Don't laugh about giving students small cameras.. students with an OLPC XO
computer <http://laptop.org/> in third world counties are already posting
vidoes onto the web from their cheap laptops, cush as this one records a cow
birth.

This is going to be a valuable ICT eLearning tool for schools to acquire ..
even as a class set. :-)
We live in exciting times.
