I just read this good magazine article that describes in detail how to use
Freemind to create a mindmap. I like the colourful recipe context that the
Author has baked into the tutorial.

Freemind in your kitchen (2007) by Gianluca
Pignalberi<http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/user/4>

http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/making_mind_maps_with_freemind?page=all,1,2,3

I have uploaded a printable PDF version that you are welcome to download and
use in the classroom. I made this using Firefox / Aardvark addon / PDF
Creator.

Like most FLOSS, not only are your student users free to download, use,
share or poke a stick at Freemind ... as a tutorial bonus they can get to
try out the recipe for yourself. :-P

Regards Roland
