You are invited to get involved in National Reading Day, 3rd Sep 2008.
National Reading Day is a key event celebrating National Literacy and
Numeracy Week in 2008.
Excellent teaching resources, fantastic networking opportunities and great
prizes are available to schools who share their answers to the 2008
National Reading Day question: What are you reading today?

What do you have to do? Its easy!
On National Reading Day simply present what your students are reading in
your classroom to a wider audience.
Showcase your students' engagement with reading to your school community,
with parents, with other schools, with the world!
Teachers, students and parents are invited to share information about what
they are reading with their schools and local communities on National
Reading Day.

Getting Started
1. Choose an activity that suits your class.
Choose a springboard idea or a themed unit on this website, or design a
unit of your own that will encourage your students to respond to the
question What are you reading today?
2. Select texts that will support the activity you have chosen.
There are many wonderful Australian and international childrens texts
available (new and old) that deal with topics and themes relevant to
children. If you are having trouble locating appropriate texts, why not
talk to the children, to colleagues, the school or local librarian, refer
to the Internet. If you still need help, contact us and we will support
you in any way we can.
3. Identify suitable forums and audiences for the childrens responses...
More information about being involved and a wide range of activities for
both literary and factual texts will be available on this website soon.
You will be able to use this to help your students present information
about their reading on 3rd September 2008.
Dont wait until September to get ready. You can plan for National Reading
Day celebrations right now!
